The capital of the region is Dawei (Tavoy). her important cities include Myeik (Mergui) and Kawthaung. The region covers an area of 43,344.9 km2, and had a population of 1,408,401 .

Tanintharyi Region Investment Committee (TRIC) is the investment approval agency for investment enterprise according to the Myanmar Investment Law in Tanintharyi Region. With aiming at the improvement of business environment thorough development of the national economy in Myanmar, the Myanmar Investment Law is enacted in October 2016 and lowed its rules in 2017. According to Chapter VI, section 24(h) of the Myanmar Investment one of the duties of the Myanmar Investment Commission is delegating powers, in ordination with the Nay Pyi Taw Council, Region and State Governments, for investment activities that the Government may approve according to the type of investment activities the condition of natural resources or creation of employment opportunities for the economic development of the Regions and States including Union Territory. In this regards, anmar Investment Commission announced to form the Nay Pyi Taw, Regions and States investment Committee by enacting the notifications.

Taintharyi Region Investment Committee is working to improve and facilitate investment Tanintharyi Region and to scrutinize and approve investment projects.
